    Intermittent FDM/HFM connection issue

We installed Hyperion, on 2 64bit Windows 2008 R2 servers: one for all products except FDM, the second for FDM only. The FDM server has Excel 2010 and Oracle client, both 32bit, and HFM client 64bit (which Oracle support states that is fine).

On a regular basis, we receive issues with FDM not being able to query the HFM applications. This manifests itself when we do the mapping from the application, which gives the followiong error:

      Adapter function [fConnect] failed

When I look at the log file, it states:

Description.....Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'HSVSESSIONLib.HsvSession'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{5EF95A40-7C62-11D2-B436-006008B6FD2D}' failed due to the following error: A security package specific error occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070721).

I have verified that the adapter is registered, and tried re-registering it. This if FDM, so the issue with registering with 64bit is resolved. I can connect to the HFM application using the HFM client on the FDM server. I see a process started on the HFM server. This typically occurs after a couple of loads from FDM to HFM.

The problem will eventually go away, after maybe a day, then remanifests itself.

      Has anyone encountered this scenario?

Also, I verified that the COM object is run by the service account, which is an admin on both servers.

UAC is disabled on the 2008 servers, right?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
We keep receiving this security package error in HFM, FR and Smart View connecting to HFM data sources.

              Thanks for your help.

Anything in the Windows system or application logs related to the DCOM account? Intermittent DCOM connection failures were very common in Server 2003 and there was a Windows registry change which had to be made to correct this. I haven't seen it in a very long time though, and I don't know if that was resolved by patches in Server 2008, but here is the comment from the readme:

Windows 2003 SP1: You may receive an "Access Denied" message while connecting from Financial Management Win32 or Financial Management Web. The client machine event log shows: “DCOM got error ‘General access denied error’ from the computer SERVER_NAME.DOMAIN_NAME, when attempting to activate the server.” Microsoft has provided the following workaround to resolve a code issue with its RPC layer by disabling bind time negotiation for security context multiplexing.

Based on this Microsoft support link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899148, the issue is fixed in 2003 SP2.

We have a similar environment and the same error. Did you find any answer on this?

                  Thank you all in advance,
