    Oracle Database Backup

    931394
      Hi

      I want to take the backup of oracle database(10g) for installing oracle patches and upgradation.
      I am using windows7. I dont have any userID and Password. I have tried some default userId and Passwords like Scott/Tiger, System/Manager.
      But no use. Can anyone guide me how to take the backup and how to proceed further.

      Thanks,
      Nirmal

          if u want to take RMAN backup then u must have sysdba privileges.

            Any other options?

              What's the 4 digit db version ? Are you not able to use operating system authentication ?

                We are now in oracle 10.1.0.3.0
                And we are planning to move to new version.

                  Same question, are you not able to use operating system authentication?

                    If you can use operating system authentication then try as ...

                    rman target /
                    RMAN> backup database plus archivelog ;

                    --neeraj

                      like technohub told you, the user sys is necessary. if you can try to change the password from sys user:
                      sqlplus / as sysdba

                      SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on MiÚ Abr 18 12:38:47 2012

                      SQL> alter user sys identified by oracle;

                      User altered.

                      SQL> conn sys/oracle as sysdba

                        You refer to a secondary problem with your headline. Your major problem is

                        I dont have any userID and Password.
                        >

                        Why not?
                        You must resolve this first. You cannot upgrade without it anyway.

                        Look if your Win OS user is in the group ORA_DBA. Then you may open a DOS-Box and call
                        sqlplus / as sysdba
                        Try this first. If it doesn't succeed, come back to us so we can guide you about how to make that connection possible.

                        Kind regards

                          Try to login with the account in which the database is installed.

                          You dont need to enter any password .

                          Or if you have the admin privlage just open the cmp prompt "run as administrator" and enter
                          sqlplus / as sysdba
                          if you get any error then copy past it here.

                          On how to take backups-->

                          The easies way to take a backup is to shutdown the database and copy the spfile, controlfile and the datafiles.

                          To shutdown the database you need to login as sysdba.

                          Once you've shutdown the database copy the spfile, controlfile and the datafiles, to the backup destination.

                          One more thing If you want to upgare from 10g to 11g then physical backups are useless you need to take logical backup.

                          GO through the below links on how to take logical backups.

                                I am not sure that the given credentials were OS credentials or not.
                                But the error is wrong password for the user.

                                    It has been connected to the oracle database successfully.
                                    Please guide me how to take the backup now.
