Hi,

I have upgraded a Windows 2003 test server to Oracle 11.2.0.3. I am trying to apply patch 13885388 to the server but am unable to do so as there appears to be an issue as follows:

Opatch following RDBSM Upgrade to 11.2.0.3

E:\>opatch version
Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.7

OPatch Version: 11.2.0.1.7

OPatch succeeded.

Now attemp to upgrade RDBMS with patch 12885388

E:\Download\13885388>opatch apply

I have tried downloading patch several times, and copying to several interim servers. Is there a quick way round this issue, have I forgotton to do something, or do I need to raise it as a TAR?

Assistance appreciated.

The OPatch version being used (11.2.0.1.7) doesn't meet the minimum version requ
ired by the patch(es). Please download latest OPatch from My Oracle Support.
As the error indicates you need to install the new Opatch version patch# 6880880.

Hope so you have not deleted your previous Opatch from ORACLE_HOME.

Follow the steps to install New opatch version:

    1. copy the downloaded zip file for patch # 6880880 to ORACLE_HOME
    2. If you have not deleted your previous Opatch, then change the Opatch directory name using rename option:
    3. Now,unzip the zip file which will create new OPatch directory
    4. run below command to check if version is changed

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>opatch version

    Hi Nonuday,

I have done eaxctly as you have detailed, as follows, but I still get the same error message:

    1) Rename original OPatch directory under $ORA_HOME to OPatch_Old
    2) Copy p6880880_112000_WINNT.zip to $ORA_HOME
    3) CD $ORA_HOME
    4) Unzip patch to $ORA_HOME, creating $ORA_HOME\OPatch
    5) CD $OPatch
    6) OPATCH VERSION

    Error as follows:

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>opatch version
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\Common

OPatch failed with error code = 1

If I now rename the new OPatch directory to OPatch_New, then rename the OPatch_Old directory to OPatch, I get the following:

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>opatch version
    Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.7

    OPatch Version: 11.2.0.1.7

    OPatch succeeded.

I have checked all the pre-reqs, and am running OUI v11.2.0.3.0

    Hi Srini,

Following your reply I have performed the following:

I renamed the ORA_HOME\OPatch directory to ORA_HOME\OPatch_OLD in Windows explorer
I rebooted the server and checked that there was no reference to ORA_HOME\OPATCH

I copied the p6880880_112000_WINNT.zip file to ORA_HOME via Windows Explorer

I unzipped the contents of the zbove zip file to ORA_HOME using the WinZip wizard 'Extract to here'
I checked that a ORA_HOME\OPatch directory and contents had been produced.

I ensured that both ORA_HOME\OPatch and ORA_HOME\JDK\BIN aooeared in the PATH to enable me to use the OPatch and JAVA commands

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1>cd opatch

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>opatch version
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\Common

OPatch failed with error code = 1
    opatch version

I then deleted the new ORA_HOME\OPatch directory, and copied backthe original backed up copy to ORA_HOME\OPatch via Windows Explorer. Then I ran the following:

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>cd E:\

    E:\>cd E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1>cd opatch

    E:\app\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OPatch>opatch version
    Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.7

    OPatch Version: 11.2.0.1.7

    OPatch succeeded.

What does the new OPatch utility use that the older one doesn't?

It would have helped if I had looked at the correct certification matrix. I had upgraded from 11g release 1 on Windows Server 2003 to 11g Release 2 on Windows Server 2003. On examination of the correct support matrix I have discovered that Windows 2003 is unsupported.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, I apologise for taking up your valuable time.

Not sure where you are looking, but 11gR2 is certainly certified on Win 2003

    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDHGGFE

The certification matrix on MOS confirms that this combination is certified.

Sorry - was looking at the forms and reports Certification Matrix.

The patch I have downloaded is p6880880_112000_WINNT.zip.

    I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2.

Can you please clarify the resolution to this? I have the exact same scenario. Thank you.

Pl post details of your "exact scenario". You need to download patch 6880880 (the latest Opatch) for your exact OS version and follow the steps in the README of the patch.

    ehoekstra:

Check the value of variable CLASSPATH.

I fixed the problem by issuing the SET CLASSPATH= so that it returns an empty value. Then run OPatch as detailed in the README.

Thank you very much. I have spent hours searching but with no results until your solution (which worked for me). It seems like it should not be this hard. Maybe I don't know where to look.

(Re)setting classpath to avoid spaces in directory names works, as suggested above.
