    Java 7 update 4 doesn't assign *.jar

      Java 7 update 4 doesn't assign *.jar file in Windows Explorer (Windows 7). Has anyone else noticed the problem?

      Update 3 works correctly.

          What does 'assign *.jar file' mean?

            It means that when you double click a file, the application assigned with the filename extension is launched with the filename is passed as a parameter to it. With update 4 you can't double click a *.jar file to launch a Java application unless you assign the filename extension yourself.

              Yes, I have the same problem - *.jar* file does not run any more after double clicking on it (Windows 7, Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_04-b20))

              I solved the problem that way:
              C:\Users\myusername>assoc .jar
              C:\Users\myusername>ftype jarfile="C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
              jarfile="C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
              How do you solve this problem?

                Hi all,

                We have identified an issue in the JRE installer that results in this problem on some Windows configurations. java.com has been switched back to JRE 6 while finish analysis and fix. We expect an updated version to be posted on java.com shortly. You can work around it by manually editing your Windows registry key for the file association, or just wait for an updated version of 7u4 to be posted.

                  The bug that caused this problem has been fixed, a new version of 7u4 (build 22) for Windows has been posted on OTN and on java.com. Thanks for reporting this issue.
