arch process using more swap space

    user3266490
      Hi,

      DB : 11.2
      OS : Aix 6

While taking archive backup by oem, only 9 archive process consuming more swap space.
The parameter value is LOG_ARCHIVE_MAX_PROCESSES=15 at db level.

Why only 9 archive process use swap space at os level?

how to determine all the archive process needed?

      Thanks & Regards,
      VN

How did you come to the conclusions you have reached? Using what tools and creating what output?

You have provided essentially zero useful information. "Taking archive backup" how? Are you talking about RMAN, a third-party product, a shell command?

We can not help you if we have to guess at what you were actually doing and actually seeing.

            Hi,

            Thanks for your reply.

            Physical memory 120 GB,Swap space 45GB.

We getting TOP consuming SWAP space PID's from OS team. Then we checked v$session with that PID's.We found that PID's belongs to archive processes.
Nealry 25 log switch per hour happened.the log file size 8gb,8 groups.

Once reached 95%,we unable to login sqlplus.

            It's happening every day.

            Any suggestions

            Thanks & Regards,

Once WHAT reached 95%? What are you talking about?

Now you say the problem is that you are unable to login using sqlplus. But you started out saying something about swap space.

Which is it? What exactly is the problem? And answer Dan's questions.

Then REDO log files is is way too small by around a factor of SIX
Increase REDO log file size to 50GB to reduce the number of switches per hour to around 3 0r 4.

Wow ! So you want ARCH to write out a 50GB file ??! Seriously ?

Why do you need 9 ARCH processes ? Why not a max of 2 or 4 ? 8GB archivelogs being written out by multiple processes concurrently will be a strain on the filesystem buffer cache and I/O
