I was wondering if there is a way to make sql developer run faster.
I´m not in a slow machine (Core 2 Duo, 2G RAM etc.).
When I use SQLTools (www.sqltools.net), for example for a simple query:
select * from cliente
It executes the statement in 78ms and fetch the result in 47ms (50 first rows). It is fast. A good tool.
If I execute the same statement in sqldeveloper it takes 10s (to fetch the same 50 first rows).
I´m using SQL Developer 3.1.07, with (oci/thick) and instant client 11.20.20.
I tried not to use oci/thick, but that make sqldeveloper even slower.
I also disable all extensions, except for subversion. But no changes.
Does this slow processing of SQL statements happen all the time, or only during some period of time after starting SQL Developer?
It's probably related to some extent to the amount of SQL History you maintain. In my case, I have about 1,000 *history.xml files in the SqlHistory directory. If you track CPU usage with Task Manager, for example, you will notice peaks during start-up, first connection open, and first SQL execution. It may take a couple of minutes before everything settles down to a lower level to permit consistent response times.
