    Login issue using SCAN

    user13549752
      Hi,

      I have a 10.2.0.5 database running on 11.2.0.2 2 node RAC system. When i am using the VIP in my tns entry i am able to login to the database. when i am using the SCAN in my tns entry it is throwing error.

      CASE1: Tns entry using VIP and connection is fine

      OISQ1 =
      (DESCRIPTION =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = NODE1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = NODE2-vip)(PORT = 1521))
      (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
      (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVER = DEDICATED)
      (SERVICE_NAME = oisq1.fmr.com)
      )
      )

          what happens when you

          nslookup oisq1.fmr.com

          what happens when you ping or ssh to the SCAN. You should get to the first IP returned if your DNS is round robin. If you cant, then your SCAN aint configured properly.

          why would you run 10.2.0.5 instance with 11.2.0.2 RAC? Is that even supported?

            Hi,

            What happens when you replace the SCAN_NAME to the 3 address IPs where each address line resolves to one of the SCAN VIPs.

            nslookup scan_name --> will give you 3 or less IPs

            Now, instead on HOST=SCAN_NAME, use these IPs in HOST=, which will make 3 (or less depending on nslookup) address lines --

            OISQ1_new =
            (DESCRIPTION =
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx )(PORT = 1521))
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx )(PORT = 1521))
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx )(PORT = 1521))
            (CONNECT_DATA =
            (SERVER = DEDICATED)
            (SERVICE_NAME=oisq1.fmr.com)
            )
            )

            Also, what is the output of

            $GRID_HOME/bin/olsnodes -t

                I could able to resolve the problem. The remote_listener parameter was set to a listener which has VIP. I changed the remote_listener parametere to SCAN_NAME:PORT and it starts working.

                  Glad you were able to determine the cause. However, I was not aware that using SCAN on a 10.2 database was supported. Theoretically (and apparently practically) this (does|should) work, but not sure support will have issues with this configuration.

                    DB 10.2.0.4 ,10.2.0.5 is very well supported in 11gR2 RAC infrastructure. Oracle also giving support on that.
