The above error can occur when the DB is down.
in some case it is reported as bug
Refer to MOS Note 429252.1
Workaround is to build a local view for the remote table and use that view in the report.
check the below link :
ORA-01041: internal error hostdef extension doesn't exist
And we still can't look up errors in the online documentation at http://tahiti.oracle.com and we require this forum to do this for free.
We have changed the system date of the server. We made it backdated by two months. But after that, we cant connect to the database. Not from sysdba, not from non-sysdba. Evene sqlplus "/as sysdba" is also failing. the error is: ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
Please: stop abusing this forum, ignoring the forums etiquette, and go somewhere else. To a chatroom for instance.

thanks vishwanath...I have changed the sqlnet.ora and the problem got resolved.
@Sybrand: I know that documentation is there and i read that regularly whenevr i get time, but documentation is a huge thing and the company doesnot give that much of time when this type of issue raises in database because entire development and testing get stopped. That why I did some googling and i found in most of them to raise a bug. Thats why i asked it here. I know you all are there to help us, atleast we can discuss the issues with you all as we are newbies and you all are the gems in oracle.
Thanks a lot for your help vishwanath.
Looking up documentation takes 5 seconds.
Asking in a forum of volunteers will take much longer.
Your approach indicates lack of industry and stupidity of your company.
If you continue to ignore forums etiquette, I will not hesitate to mark your 'contributions' (basically all doc questions) as abuse of this forum, because that is what it is.
