SQL Developer for Oracle 8i in Windows 7?

I've recently been upgraded to Windows 7 and the previous version of SQL Developer I had (1.2.1.32.13) no longer runs. It kicks into life and looks as if it's going to be behave itself, but then just hangs and I end up having to kill it.

I've downloaded the latest version, but that doesn't support the ancient Oracle version that we're running here (8i), so I'm a bit stuck.

Is there any add-ons or anything that I can do so I can connect to our 8i database with any version of SQL Developer?

I've tried downloading lots of other software but none of them seem to want to work for me for one reason or another.

Any advice gratefully received!
