Hello Vidya - welcome to the OTN forums!
What are the real benefits of using apex listener? We are evaluating this tool to convert one of our application which is currently using sql server database and MS Access forms? How difficult can be the conversion? We want it to be web enabled. So is apex listener our option to make it web enabled? Or is it not necessary to use apex listener. Also can the apex listener be installed on the database server itself?APEX Listener is a web server to host Oracle Application Express. I think you should start to get an overview on APEX on its [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/overview/index.html]OTN homepage. You'll also find tutorials on migrating from MS Access, e.g. starting [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/mig-index-095631.html]here.
So is apex listener our option to make it web enabled? Or is it not necessary to use apex listener. There are two other web servers available for APEX: The "Embedded PL/SQL Gateway" (EPG) hosted by the database internal XDB HTTP Server and mod_plsql, usually hosted by the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS).
Which one you should use depends a bit on what you intend to do.
Also can the apex listener be installed on the database server itself?Yes, you can (but don't have to) install APEX Listener on the same host that runs your database server.
