          Hi,
this may sound stupid, but are you trying to run visualvm in a headless environment? Or is there an active display present?

Is there an X window server running on 10.232.64.225?
If you have no experience with X window server software ...

Can you connect to the unix box using vnc?
Then you can run your X software (jvisualvm).
You will notice DISPLAY is already set.
