Zje 28545 error is a generic configuration issue.
Could you please post your listener status (lsnrctl status <listener name>)?

You've just started the listener: Uptime 0 days 0 hr. 0 min. 33 sec

Do you still have the same error message?

If yes, then please post the output of: "dir C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\db_1\bin\dg4*" executed in a command line window.

Unfortunately you didn't reply to my first question:"Do you still have the same error message?"

As the listener was started shortly before you checked the listener status, the service summary migtnow hae displayed the d4odbc SID and it was missing earlier.

    Sankar,
one issue I found is the tnsnames.ora entry
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 5.5.5.5(PORT = 1521))
after the host string a closing bracket is missing - but I think it looks like it is just a typo when you removed the original value as the tnsping works correctly.

Can you please verify again that the host in your tnsnames.ora file matches the host in the listener.ora file and confirm that they match - just to make sure you connect to the correct Oracle listener which also has the dg4odbc SID entry?

Can you also please provide the output of:C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\db_1\bin\dg4odbc

Edited by: kgronau on Jun 20, 2012 6:44 AM

Maybe it would also make sense to post the whole listener.ora file.

I don't see an issue in the config files.
Can you confirm that (HOST = DBSERVER3) and (HOST = 5.5.5.5) are the same?

If both hostname and IP Address match, please get from sysinternals.com the Process Monitor utility and start it without a filter. Then try to connect again to the DG4ODBC SID using SQL*Plus. Once you got again the error, please stop the Process Monitor and upload the file to a public file hosting server and provide the link.

Commonly ping -a <hostname/IP Address> should give us the details:
    ping -a 5.5.5.5
    ping -a DBSERVER3
