Are you sure about what you are installing,Its sound like you are running oracle installer for Oracle database
I'm installing Oracle SES, as I mentioned it, in "Database configuration assistance" it shows this error, I think it is like when you want to install Oracle Database, but I haven't install Oracle DB till now and I am not familiar with that at all.
SES installs a database as part of its installation process. A few things to check:
1/ Is this the only Oracle product on the machine? If you have any other products which incorporate the database, you may be getting a clash
2/ Have you previously had an Oracle product installed? If so, check for left-over environment variables, especially ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID or TNS_ADMIN
3/ If the machine has a dynamic IP address using DHCP, make sure you've installed the "loopback adapter" as specified in the install guide.
