    Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 Stopped Working

    MichaelSmithson
      Since this morning (Mon 09-July), we are facing a problem with not being able to Login to Primavera P6 Professional R8.2.

      We keep getting the following error: Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 has stopped working. Windows will now close the Program.

      On Fri 06-Jul at 20:00 it was working ok. No Windows Updates have been applied. PC was shut down over the weekend. MS-Office Excel, Word, Outlook and Autodesk AutoCAD are all working ok. We have checked MS-SQL Server (PRIMAVERA) Service is Started. We have shut down and started (not just Restarted) the PC, but this has not helped. We have tried to run Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 as Administrator, but again this has not helped.

      We are running Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 on a 64-bit Windows 7 OS, with SQL Server 2005 Express Database, and it ras been running ok for a few weeks since installation, until today.

      Obviously this is urgent. Can anyone please help.

      With Thanks, Michael

            Hi Michael,

            Please create a service request for this problem if you are still experiencing the issue. This issue might be caused by bug 13955526 but an engineer assigned to the service request that you create will be better able to diagnose the problem.

              Dear user10740068,

              Thanks for your suggestion.

              This problem was not caused by bug 13955526. However it has been resolved. After configuring the same database with a different alias, at first login to either alias the "Exception EAccessViolation ... 00000381" error occured. Subsequent logins resulted in the "Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 Stopped Working" error. Using the following 2 "queries" inside SQL Server against the pmdb$primavera database resolved the "Exception EAccessViolation ... 00000381" error and fixed the problem:

              1)
              truncate table obsproj;
              declare @ret int, @msg varchar(1000)
              exec obsproj_full_rebuild @ret OUTPUT, @msg OUTPUT

              2)
              update projwbs set delete_session_id=null, delete_date=null where wbs_id in (select wbs_id from projwbs where delete_session_id is not null);
              update userdata set user_data = null where topic_name = 'pm_settings' and user_id in (select user_id from users where user_name ='admin');

              where 'admin' is the user’s login id for Oracle Primavera P6 Professional Project Management R8.2

              Now the login works, however user preferences and colours have had to be reset, and all baselines reassigned (reset to current project); this is a tiny to price to pay for being back into production.

              As to why this is happening? Maybe it has something to do with Windows Updates, or trying to use Oracle Primavera P6 Professional Project Management R8.2 on a 64-bit Windows 7 OS?

              Hope this helps others,

              Michael
