Does the error happen every time you try to launch the client, or was this a one-time thing?
Was it working before and suddenly you have this problem?
You should be able to get better details about the error from the oddev.log file located in the Windows user folder (e.g. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\UPDev7). These details may give a clue.
This issue happens every time the UPK launches and it only happens on specific user machines (that launched the UPK via secure tunnel).
The Oddev.log shows something like this:
Exception rethrown at :
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg)
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type)

System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'upklib.bpweb.bp.com'
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream(TransportContext& context)
You mention this is over a secure tunnel - is it VPN?
I think that you need to check firewall / ports. Are you allowing the port for the upk location (upklib.bpweb.bp.com) to be open on the client?
Also, check any proxy settings that may exist.
Yes, its VPN. UPK is auto tunnel with our VPN and everytime it launches, its crash. If we disconnecting from VPN and relaunch, UPK launches fine, but we wont be able to access all UPK library.
The proxy setting looks OK as we able to access UPK URL perfectly fine.
I am assuming the client machine (the one with UPK client installed) is not on-site or on the same network as the UPK server - correct?
If so, get the client computer to establish a successful VPN connection. Once this is done, try the following from the affected machine:
1. Ping the UPK server upklib.bpweb.bp.com - do you get a response?
2. Visit the UPK ODSContent / virtual directory and make sure you can see published content - do you get to the webpage?
3. If you cannot ping the server, try inserting the port number of the IIS/web server as well and see if this helps? (This applies to visiting the webpage as well - insert the port number if required).
Lets see what happens..
I have seen Forums on the web pointing to Windows Search being a possible cause to this error and this appears to be true for me.
