Yes I got a request specifically asking us to install 10g version of client.
I would dearly love to be able to stop the use of out-dated, unsupported software but the real world is over flowing with vendors who do not keep up or if they do, want to charge an arm & a leg to get the version of their application that is supported using the version of client or database I as a dba would prefer. It seems that most business users, and I have worked with a lot, see the red flags the vendors raise by saying 'you are not supported' but not the red flags when Oracle says the same. It's sad, but it is real life. Today, I am installing a 10g client because, and I quote, "The Full Oracle Client 10.2.0.5 is the requirement for the software that will be installed on this server. Intergraph has not certified the application versions that need to be installed on the server for anything newer."
