Does anyone know what on a PC would block the creation of desktop shortcuts. For the majority of installs a desktop short cut has been created fine, but for a couple of clients for some reason no desktop shortcut was created (XP and Win 7).
I have had a look through the IntegrationServiceImpl source code and it isn't obvious what kind of things would block the creation of a desktop shortcut.
The jnlp file is fine as it creates desktop shortcuts on the majority of pcs.
Anyone know what could block?
My memory is poking at me. I remember reading about an issue where you could change the location of the user home and Java would then fail to discover the correct paths. This bug has to this day not been fixed.
Perhaps it could be related to that?
It could well be this. It is tricky to know as it is on a clients pc that I don't have access to so - as with all client deployments - pretty hard for me to investigate much further.
But this helps - I will try and recreate issue on my PC so I could at least better understand what is going wrong in a minority of cases.
If you can ask your client to alter deployment.properties for you and then provide you trace file it may help to understand the context better
Ideally, Process Monitor (sysinternals.com) log capturing all events from java process is essential as it will likely help to uncover what exactly went wrong at the native level.
Please report your findings here and as a new bug on Java.
