Hard disk contains a database we do not want to lose.
I try to boot from another PC and get:
No volume found
Volume group "VolGroup00" not found.
If I put in a rescue dvd I can mount and copy off the data to a usb drive.
I have spent 2 days on this
making minor changes to lvm.conf and trying uuids
if there is no forthcoming solution I will
1/copy the database to a new install,
2/install relevant rpms,
3/update kernel settings,
and fix it up that way (which has an incremental, though not certain, route to success).
OS:Oracle linux 5 recently updated (5.8)
8 year old desktop pentium 4 machine.

These forums are publicly facing the entire Internet.
When you display your personal information, you invite your information to be harvested.
These forums are not for access to company-internal support resources.
If the effected system is at work or for one of your customers, you need to use internal support, NOT these end-user to end-user public forums.
If this is your personal system, then the answer would be to reinstall everything fresh (OS and applications) to a replacement computer and restore your data to the freshly installed application.
