As per Oracle this feature has been taken away from 4.2 but may be available in future release.

          Please check this

In versions 4.1 and earlier, the grid edit had a table mockup at the bottom so when you changed column span, numbers, added table breaks, etc. at least you could understand how it changed. A big selling point of Apex is the rapid prototype development methodology.

This is a step backwards and I have not seen any explanation as to why. I am going to venture a guess, that Apex is too convenient and cuts into the business model of monetizing the apps.

              Hi,

Thanks for your comments. Just to provide some explanation....the drag & drop layout feature was removed from APEX 4.2 for a number of reasons - not being 'modern', not supporting the new grid system, and using old JavaScript were a couple of the more technical reasons being it being removed.  One of the other forum users has already referred to our latest Statement of Direction, which outlines our intention to reintroduce a drag and drop layout editor in our 5.0 release:

Drag and Drop Layout Editor - Reintroduce the drag and drop layout editor which is compatible with laying out items within a grid layout.

So with our planned enhancements to the Application Builder for 5.0, to improve developer productivity, we would not deem the removal of the drag & drop feature from 4.2 as a "step backwards", but more as a stepping stone towards an enhanced offering in our future release.  In relation to the grid layout changes that were introduced with 4.2, you'll find a number of threads discussing this topic, which will hopefully prove useful.

              Regards,

              Hilary
