    ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact

      Hi,
      I'm installing oracle database instance for the asm ,but when i run dbca , I got the following erro:

      +$ dbca -silent -responseFile /U01/installer/database/response/trainee_dbca.rsp+
      Enter SYS user password:

          Did you check whether the ASM instance is up and all diskgroup are mounted. Check the load on the server.

            is this RAC or Standalone?

            I do not know what some of you are doing where you think you need to manually create ASM in 11gR2. I have installed LOTS of 11gR2 RAC and Stand-alone ASM, and I have never had to manually create ASM. The installer does all of the setup, then the root.sh actually starts it. How did you install the software?

            If you are using Linux you can use VNC (it is included in MOST Linux distros.) Using VNC (vncserver -geometry 1280x1024 ) and on desktop vncviewer - this allows you to do the install on "the console" such that should your client get disconnected, the install is still running. I also use this for long-running operations where I know it will be running overnight. I can logoff and reconnect to VNC in the morning and see what is the status.

                His first sentence is:

                Again, the Grid (RAC and STANDALONE) installer creates the ASM instance automagically. Why is he trying to create it by using dbca - if the installation was done correctly he would not be doing this.

                  Well done.

                  What I understand in his post is that he is trying to create a database on ASM (probably he got an type error there)

                  1) DB name is not a ASM instance specification or type (So I believe that it is DB configuration)
                  2) secondly there is definition for STORAGE type and DISKGROUP Name specified in the dbca response file.
                  3) The error message shows that dbca is not able to connect to the ASM instance.

                  By these consideration I said to check him whether the ASM instance is configured correctly and the diskgroup is mounted for creating the database.

                  I hope I am not wrong :)

                        Hi,

                        First of all your output above shows your diskgroup is DATA but in your template you defined 'VOL1'

                        Second run

                        $ > ls -al $GRID_HOME/bin/oracle
                        $ > ls -al $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle

                        if it is not showing '-rwsr-s--x' then change it by running

                        cd $GRID_HOME/bin
                        chmod 6751 oracle
                        cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
                        chmod 6751 oracle

                          now the diskgroup is DATA.

                          in $ORACLE_HOME/bin :

                                Hi,

                                In an oracle restart or RAC configuration usually only the grid listener will be configured. so configure only one listener on the grid home on 1521 you installation will be successful.
