    how to configure asm without using dbca

      hi there,
      As i couldnot able to configure asm with dbca , could i have any link that tells me apparentely how to configure asm without  
      using dbca
      
      db-version--10.2.0.4
      plateform---linux(64)

          Hi,

          You can use below steps
          1. create pfile for ASM with parameters
          background_dump_dest='/xxx/bdump'
          core_dump_dest='/xxx/cdump'
          instance_type='asm'
          large_pool_size=12M
          remote_login_passwordfile='exclusive'
          user_dump_dest='/u01/app/admin/+ASM/udump'
          compatible=10.2.0.5.0
          asm_diskstring = 'ORCL:*'
          asm_diskgroups = 'DATA'

          2. Create the asm instance using above pfile and create spfile after that

          3. Create the diskgroup
          SQL> create diskgroup data disk 'xxx';

            I'm getting following error:
            SQL> startup nomount pfile='/opt/oracle/102/dbs/initasm.ora';
            ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager
