    Hi,

    You can use below steps
    1. create pfile for ASM with parameters
    background_dump_dest='/xxx/bdump'
    core_dump_dest='/xxx/cdump'
    instance_type='asm'
    large_pool_size=12M
    remote_login_passwordfile='exclusive'
    user_dump_dest='/u01/app/admin/+ASM/udump'
    compatible=10.2.0.5.0
    asm_diskstring = 'ORCL:*'
    asm_diskgroups = 'DATA'

    2. Create the asm instance using above pfile and create spfile after that

    3. Create the diskgroup
    SQL> create diskgroup data disk 'xxx';

    Hope it helps

    Cheers

    hi,

    I'm getting following error:
    SQL> startup nomount pfile='/opt/oracle/102/dbs/initasm.ora';
    ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager
