special characters

Hi,
on FSCM9 and tools 8.49 , datbase Oracle 11g ,when we enter :
 AEFÉDIC
for example , cobol reads it as
AFEÃ?DIC
Is there any solution for that ?

    What's the character set of the database (unicode/non-unicode) ? Value of NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS ?
    When you said "cobol read ...", what do you mean exactly ?

    it is a non-unicode system.
    SQL> show parameter NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS
    
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    ------------------------------------ ----------- ----------
    nls_length_semantics                 string      BYTE
    To answer to "cobol read ...", what do you mean exactly ?

    I contacted developer that has this problem. There is a trace file in which he can see the modification. The value was KÉHL.SETG and intrace file it is as you see :
    Bind-29, type=SQLPBUF, length=10, value=KÉHL.SETG
    and this prevents to find the row to update then "0 row updated" is returned.
