The following works in Oracle Linux 6.3, x86_64:

    yum install http://pkgs.repoforge.org/fuse-sshfs/fuse-sshfs-2.2-1.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm

Yum will automatically install fuse and fuse-libs from the Oracle public yum repository.

Then on your Linux system, type: sshfs username@servername:directory mountpoint
where username is the username of your Mac account and servername the IP address or FQDN of your Mac.

For instance, to mount the Desktop folder from your IMac:

On your Mac system, open "*System Preferences*, *Sharing* and enable *Remote Login*
(Firewall will be configured automatically if enabled)

Then, at the command prompt on your Linux system type:

    mkdir /mnt/mymac
    sshfs dude@10.0.0.1:Desktop /mnt/mymac

You can find the files from you Mac Desktop in /mnt/mymac.

Is it possible to have /mnt/mymac as a mounted volume on the Linux desktop?

The following commands will mount the remote directory and make it appear as a disk icon on the desktop.

    mkdir $HOME/mnt/mymac
    sshfs macuser@macmachine:Desktop $HOME/mnt/mymac
