Thank you very much for your response. I realize the consistency of the database cannot be gauranteed but does it release the CDS lock - so it if the application handles the consistency problems the database can still be opertational without bringing down all processes using the database.
My apologies, didnt realize there was a question in your response. The purpose of failchk is to clean up after a process dies in the library. If failchk can run successfully (it will fail if it cannot) then the database does not need to be brought down for a recovery and processes connected to the db can remain connected.
