The old thread on this topic was mysteriously deleted so I am posting again as I have found the correct solution.
The correct workaround for this issue is to set Internet Explorer as your default browser, then set Chrome back as default browser. After you do that the installers will work correctly.
On the old thread, someone posted to use XP compatibility mode as a workaround. This is NOT correct; if you do this, the automatic updates will not work correctly and your computer will be left vulnerable to hackers. The same goes for using the "offline" installers.
