    Why do you have two LISTENER sections? Would I be correct in assuming HOST=IP is not the actual value in the file, but you have substituted "IP" for the actual IP address? If so, is the actual IP address correct? Does it match it IP address shown in the error messages, which I pointed out above?

    Again, it looks like you masked the actual IP address with the literal "IP". I hope the real file has the real IP address. And I hope you have also masked SERVICE_NAME=, because "SID" is most certainly NOT the correct value.

    Dear ADF112,

    Try to compact your major 3 files concerned with this problem as the following

    *1) Edit tnsname.ora to be* (The service name is case-sensitive. So, orcl is not as ORCL) (host is the fully qualified computer name or IP)
    orcl =
         (DESCRIPTION =
               (ADDRESS_LIST =
                       (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host)(PORT = 1521))
               )
              (CONNECT_DATA =
                    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
               )
         )
    *2) Edit listener.ora to be* (the service name as I said is case-sensitive). Also, make sure about the ORACLE_HOME
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host)(PORT = 1521))
        )
      )
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (GLOBAL_DBNAME = orcl)
          (SID_NAME = orcl)
          (ORACLE_HOME = C:\app\10017134\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1)
        )
      )
    ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER = ON
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = C:\app\10017134
    *3) Edit sqlnet.ora to be*
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
    *4) Restart the listener*

    5) Please, mark the post as helpful or correct if it is so. :)

    Best Regards
    Mahmoud

    On which machine are you executing 'lsnrctl'. Listener exists only on the database server. lsnrctl should be executed ON THE SERVER HOSTING THE DATABASE IN QUESTION.

    I've never seen an instance named SID. It's possible, but the above strongly suggests someone created the listener.ora file by copying an example and didn't understand that 'SID' should have been replaced with a real value when completing the SID_DESC section.

    In other words, in their SID_DESC section they had this:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)

          (SID_NAME = SID)

    when they should have had this:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
          (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracl/product/11.2.0/db1)
