OEL 6.3 64-bit
Oracle XE 11gR2 database
after failed install Oracle XE, the .rpm was removed.
trying to re-install to a new directory (using prefix option) gives error 'can not use prefix to install package'.
You can however trick the installer to install into a different directory by creating a symbolic link.
If I remember correctly, 11gR2 XE installs into /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe. To relocate the installation to a different directory using a symlink:
sudo mkdir /home/oracle-xe
sudo ln -s /home/oracle-xe /u01
Then when the installer writes to /u01 it actually writes to /home/oracle-xe.
A failed XE installation usually leaves wrong Oracle processes behind. You will need to restart the server.
