Recovering the databases from DBF files

We have a customer that was backing up his data by copying the oradata\XE folder (all .dbf files) to a backup drive.

His server crashed and he formatted it and reinstalled the database 11g from scratch.

Now he needs to re-attach the .DBF files, is there a way??

Yes. If the database instance was shutdown when the backup of the .dbf files was made, no recovery is needed, datafiles can be pretty much opened for an instance straight away.

Or if archivelog mode was enabled, and the database was in backup mode, recovery needs to be performed to get the datafiles in sync, then the datafiles can be opened for the instance. All archive log files needed for a point in time recovery must also be available.
