when you say "..using 'larry1';" in your create database link command. You also need a tnsnames.ora entry which reference that. Try tnsping command on larry1.
You can also bypass the tnsnames.ora like this.
create database link larry
connect to larry identified by ****

Now this is what's happening --
SQL> create database link larry1 connect to larry identified by *** using 'ORCL';
Database link created.
SQL> select * from dual@larry1;
select * from dual@larry1
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
ORA-02063: preceding line from LARRY1
And i'm dead sure about the password i used while creating the Database Link.
Now why the error ?
