Planning on taking the Oracle DBA Admin 2 exam in the next few months, wondered if anyone had any experience of how difficult it is compared to 1z0-052 (admin 1). I passed the admin 1 fairly comfortably. Any advice would be great thanks.

The more experienced, practiced and comfortable you are with the topic areas the more easy a test will seem.

So if you look at the 1z0-053 topic areas and are comfortable with a good number of them then that is a good start. If they are all new to you then it will seem difficult.

As you get towards OCP level exams however the choices may become more difficult:

select all the correct answers from five is less easy than select two from five .... and you will get more of the former and less of the latter for an OCP exam.

Difficulty is in the mind of the bethinker.

What's hard for me is easy to you and vice-versa. If someone tells you the test was easy -- that means it was easy for them. It does not necessarily have any relevance for you. 1Z0-053 is completely different than 1Z0-052. 1Z0-052 was designed for OCAs -- people jst starting out (or hoping to start out) as DBAs. It was heavy on concepts, theory and design.

1Z0-053 is designed for OCP-level individuals -- namely people who are expected to be (of have been) working as an Oracle DBA. The skills it is testing are different. For one thing, you need to know RMAN. You probably want to be comfortable with RMAN and also have pretty good RMAN skills. I'm joking, but not really. Look at the topics -- almost half of the test is on backup and recovery. Why is this? Because the one cardinal sin that a DBA must never do is lose data. It's nice if the database performs well, tasks are automated by the scheduler, and resources are used wisely. However, it is critical that if the system crashes, you can bring the database back up with the same data that existed before the crash.

If you take the time to truly study the topics, the test will be easy. Don't forget to read up on RMAN. :)

The subject title is 1z0-053 ..... your question is abou 1z0-052. If you think about it you have already gven many reasons why you should not be hired as a DBA.

Please visit http://education.oracle.com/certification and study the website carefull .. including preparation and all the FAQs.

And read the sticky announcement posts on this forum.
