Oracle 11g XE: Cannot tnsping xe

    mhathi
      Hello,

I have the following installed on Windows 7 64 bit:
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
      PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
      "CORE     11.2.0.2.0     Production"
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
      NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, from a cmd window, when I do: tnsping xe, I am getting the following:

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on 16-OCT-2
      012 11:32:22

      Used parameter files:
      C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\admin\sqlnet.ora

      TNS-03505: Failed to resolve name
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can connect using SQL Developer without any problem.

What could be the issue? I was trying to connect from OBIEE BI Publisher 11g when I realized this issue.

      Thanks,

      Manish

What is in the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files in the C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\admin\ directory?

Nevermind. It was my own stupidity. In my zeal to fix the issue, I had created a TNS_ADMIN, changed my hosts file etc. etc. I methodically went back and reset everything and then rebooted my windows workstation...you guess it, reboot always works on windows :)

              Thanks.
