Production Support DBA vs Development DBA

bharathDBAOct 17 2012 — edited May 14 2013
Hi,

I'm an Oracle production support DBA for 5 years working on different tasks with RMAN,EXP/IMP,DB Creation,DataGuard,RAC,backup recovery,Tuning etc. and the role was good.

Recently,I moved to a different project and I was asked to work as a DBA for an implementation project in Oracle 11g.

Here,my role is to work on the database modelling using MS Visio, designing the database tables,PL/SQL development and need to work on database migration from DB2 to Oracle 11g.

This work is quite new for me and feeling difficulty with the timelines. And thier expectaion is very high from me as aDBA.

I would like to know, how far this new experience will add to my profile because in almost 9 out of 10 calls I get from recruiters, they ask for production support DBA experience and very few recruiters are asking for implementation experience.

Or Please suggest what are all good experience I get as Development DBA ,which I miss as a Production support DBA.

Please provide your opinions to plan my career properly as an Oracle DBA.

Rgards,
Bharath.
