i followed article http://www.xeriff.com/wkx/index.php?title=Installing_Oracle_ASM_using_UNIX_files_as_disk_devices and i have created diskgroups.

but when i query my database it shows me old status :

    select name from v$datafile;

    NAME
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/system01.dbf
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/undotbs01.dbf
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/sysaux01.dbf
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/users01.dbf
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/example01.dbf
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ORCL/rman_01.dbf

Are you sure while creating database you choose ASM not File system .

why it is not showing me ASM file system ??
because during database creation you've selected local file system inplace of ASM.
either create new database by dbca and place files at ASM.
or migrate these files from local filesystem to ASM by RMAN.

if you database dosen't contain any data or information that you need , its an easy to drop the old one and recreate it . if you want data then you should do move from file system to ASM

    dear osama ,

i am also reviewing your blog.

    http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Automatic_Storage_Management/ASM_10.shtml

what is this guy doing in the later part of article ( after creating users2 data file ) ?

why do we need scripts for auto shutdown and startup ?

i am thankful to every one.
