I have a code in my application which uses the JFileChooser dialog to pick files from the filesystem. After the latest upgrade for Java on Mac, where I had to download/install the JRE from the Oracle website, there is an issue with the JFileChooser, the files/folders which contain unicode characters in their filenames are not being listed inside the dialog. I ran the FileChooserDemo class (provided by Oracle) with JRE6 and JRE7 on Mac, and the unicode files are not being listed in the dialog when the class is ran with JRE7 (Java 7 update 9). Does someone know how I can get the files to be listed, because this is very serious to me?
Looks to be a known issue:
This is being fixed in 7u12. EA builds of 7u12 will be available on http://jdk7.java.net in the near future.
Is there a way to somehow apply a fix inside JFileChooser class? My java code, in which the JFileChooser is integrated, is loading on the client side via an applet. Can I do something to the applet (apply specific java parameters on applet load?) to make this work? I really need this, it's very urgent for me. I would gladly accept any workaround that does not include changes to the customer systems. And I cannot wait 7u12 (which may be released months from now).
Thanks for your reply, btw.
