    Uninstall/Install Question

    m.davide
I have a Oracle 11g R2 XE installed in my PC. I also have a licensed VB2010 Ultimate(free from class). I have made three systems using this database, 1 using php and 2 using .net.

My question is, if I uninstalled my database and then reinstall it, will it affect my the systems I made(I already backed-up my tables etc.)?

for example, the components for my oracle-vb connection.

      Thank you!

      P.S.

Why I need to uninstall? Because I got locked out of the System account:, I can't change my password.

So connect as sys and change the System password to something else.
          sqlplus /nolog
          conn / as sysdba
          alter user system identified by newPassword;

The process to change passwords is documented - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/server.112/e18804/users_secure.htm#ADMQS227

I created a local connection using sql developer and now i get:

jdbc-oci:112030 error when i access the sysdba connection.

i also tried to reset the system password, but i still get the error.

I this error when I don't specify the other parameters on ms-dos (example: C:\Users\Davide>sqlplus system/secret@127.0.0.1:1521/XE)

I forgot to mention, OS authentication doesn't work since I'm on a domain and I can't alter the domain settings since I'm not friends with my system admin.

                  I really need to reinstall.

I understand your system admin somehow - installing a(nother) DBMS on a domain machine yourself can cause him a lot of pain too, especially...

when you already have a different Oracle Database (client?) installation on your machine.
I guess your ORACLE_HOME is set to that installation instead of your XE, which is why you probably get
                    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
You could try to add your XEs parameters to your regular Oracle environment (if you can access it) or you can reset your ORACLE-parameters to point to your XE instance. Possibly you have more luck than.
Note that you usually need local admin rights for installing XE, so reinstalling might not be an option for you.

Is this on a different machine, or what's installed alongside XE?

                      Please post output from command:

                      path

                      SQL> conn / as sysdba
                      ERROR:
                      ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
That does not work likely because (you work local to the database instance and) PATH is not set properly for working within the Oracle home. (Of course, the Windows service for the instance need to be available as well.)
I forgot to mention, OS authentication doesn't work since I'm on a domain and I can't alter the domain settings since I'm not friends with my system admin.
Well, I guess you have a setting need adjusting for os auth to work in your environment.

                      I really need to reinstall.
Why? There must be some other reason. What will you do the next time you need to change a password?
