we have a database (warehouse) that has several sources some of which are sql server databases. All of these sources are connected to by database links, using hetrogeneous gateways for the non Oracle databases. All of the links work correctly and data can be selected down the link using sql*plus.
However, using 3.2.10.09 of sqldeveloper 32 bit on Windows 7 selects issued against sql server databases down these links fail giving a "Java heap space" error message. The same select works fine in sql*plus.
I think this is a bug?
It may or may not be a bug. It might just be that the amount of data retrieved over the link is more than the default heap space for SQL Developer can cope with.
It might be useful to monitor the amount of memory SQL*Plus is using as it retrieves data over the link.
You can increase the memory allocated to SQL Developer by modifying <sqldev>\ide\bin\ide.conf
Edit this line to allocate moe memory.
