Our SQL database is configured to terminate any connections that haven't been used in the last 30 minutes. If I wait longer than that and try to do something with one of those dead connections, it takes forever for SQL Developer to realize it's gone, and I need to close that worksheet and open a new one.
So I wondered if I could configure SQL Developer to just do a "select * from dual" every 20 minutes or something. Obviously I don't want to have to initiate that...I want it to do it on it's own, so when I come back to the session, it's ready to go, and I don't need to establish another session. Dale
A non-Oracle Keep Alive extension exists for this. You might want to check it out. A reference to it, along with the official Reconnect alternative, is: Re: Did KeepAlive make it to SQLD 3.1?
