Hi all,

My experience is in database developement.

Currently I have 11gr2 on win 7 professional os on my laptop.

I also have weblogic 11g installed.

For my learning,I want to develop a website ,connect to the database and fetch records from the database like a very professional website.
Then steadily add more complexicity in th website.
I have some programming experience in core java ,html and java scripting.

Now I want to build my knowledge on the front end side .

Considering I want to use java in future, and keep myself into oracle/java developement.

What is the bare minimum tools and technologies I need to achieve the above?

Regards

Why not start out by leveraging your database knowledge and use Oracle's APEX?

    What is Oracle Application Express?

Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) is a declarative, rapid web application development tool for the Oracle database. It is a fully supported, no cost option available with all editions of the Oracle database. Using only a web browser, you can develop and deploy professional applications that are both fast and secure.

In this case I'd agree on starting with Apex (and maybe that is already enough). Going down the Java road will take several years of study and practice before you'll use it effectively (without loss of hair) for web dev.

    Alternatives:

    - start with Ruby (on Rails) first; its a more streamlined experience built around logical conventions in stead of total freedom
    - if you must use Java, refresh your core Java knowledge and then start with simple servlets & JSPs on a Tomcat server, then grow from there into the difficult world and choice of web frameworks

I always recommend this free book for new people:

    http://pdf.coreservlets.com/

Give the first chapters a read and see how you fare.
