You could create a Proxy service with Service Type as 'Messaging' and Request/Response Type as XML (you can specify the schema as well).
Under 'Transport' tab, select the Protocol as http and opt for BASIC auth.
Where and how to specify the user name and password to be authenticated. How would the proxy service know which user name and password to be used to authenticate

The users/groups are picked up from the LDAP configured in Security Realms->myRealm->Providers
You basically have 2 options:
- You can configure your LDAP in Providers
- Use the DefaultAuthenticator that weblogic provides you by default.
If you do not want to configure an LDAP, and want to use weblogic's default, then all you have to do is add users and groups in Security Realms->myRealm->Users and Groups
Do mark this as useful or answered, if this has helped.
I have used service account approach for this.
Iam not sure which one is better interms of performance and better approach.
