Hello,
I am trying to refresh one of our QA environments and I am getting this error message:
RMAN> run

4> allocate channel c2 device type disk;
5> restore database;

I created a new database from scratch with the same name as is in Production, later on I will proceed to rename it to the right one. I started the steps for refreshing the PRD copy:
RMAN> shutdown immediate

using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
database dismounted
Oracle instance shut down

RMAN> startup nomount

connected to target database (not started)
Oracle instance started

RMAN> alter database mount;

Once the control file is restored, I need to crosscheck, delete expired and catalog the backups at the new server:
RMAN> crosscheck backup;

...
Crosschecked 48 objects

RMAN> delete noprompt expired backup;
...
Deleted 48 EXPIRED objects

RMAN> list backup summary;

specification does not match any backup in the repository
I need now to catalog the backups we transferred from Prod into the QA server's directory /restorealeph:
RMAN> catalog start with '/restorealeph/';

searching for all files that match the pattern /restorealeph/

Both source and target databases are 11.2.0.2 PSU 6 running on Linux x64. I cannot use RMAN Duplicate since there is no visibility among different environments (PROD - QA in this case).

Any idea?

Thanks

Martin

    Hello;

    What I think it is

    Use the "set newname for datafile/tablespace/database" with giving a new location.

    Things to check :

    it may be some directory permission issue.

    backups on new server in different location.

    SET UNTIL SCN/TIME is less than SCN/TIME of datafile backup

    status EXPIRED no FULL/LEVEL 0 backups AVAILABLE

    Would CATALOG the backups from proper location on the new server

    Best Regards

    mseberg

    ORA-01180: can not create datafile 1
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATA1/alephpr/datafile/system.269.722874729'
    Put here relevant info of alert_log of ASM and DB.

    Q1: Are you using same HOST (ASM) and DISKGROUP of PROD env?

    You can format text using tag
     at begin and end of output

    It's not logging anything from the restore operation.

    No, I am not using the same host nor the same +ASM instance than in PROD but ASM paths and Diskgroup names are equals.

    Can you try out removing the directories you have manually created under the DATA1 diskgroup (/alephpr/datafile) and let RMAN handle it.
    Also, have you set the value of parameter "db_create_file_dest" on the QA database pfile ?

    Take a look at this
    http://shivanandarao.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/duplicating-primary-database-to-a-new-host-without-connecting-to-the-primary-database-in-oracle-10g11g/
    Here the auxiliary database uses the same diskgroup names as the production but on different server.
    This might help you out !!

    Thanks mseberg.

    It doesn't seem a permission issue. Datafiles are stored into an ASM instance and I had no issues to create the ALEPHPR database there.

    Even though backups are stored on a different location at the QA server (/restorealeph) when their original location at PROD is (/home/oracle/bk), this should not be impacting the restore operation once I execute the CATALOG START WITH '<new_location_directory>'

    The error pops up either if I include the SET UNTIL SEQ or not.

    Status is A (Available) and LV (level) is Full.
    RMAN> list backup summary;

    4098    B  A  A DISK        07-NOV-12       1       1       NO         BACKUP_ALEPHPR.TUR_110712030000
    Cataloging the backups from the new directory does not change anything.

    Any other suggestion?

    Its a simple test.

    Try to restore just the system file ( number 1 ) and use "set newname"

    It either works or it does not.

    Hi,

    Try restore this controlfile "/restorealeph/c-3573460394-20121107-01"

    Then issue:
    RMAN>  run {
      allocate channel c1 device type disk;
      allocate channel c2 device type disk;
      restore controlfile from '/restorealeph/c-3573460394-20121107-01';
      startup mount;
      restore database from tag 'BACKUP_ALEPHPR.TUR_110712030000';

    Hi,
    My guess: You are using oldest controlfile. Oracle is trying create a datafile 1 (system) instead restore it, but create datafile 1 (system) is NOT allowed if the file belongs to the SYSTEM tablespace.
    Orace is trying create this file because the backup tag 'BACKUP_ALEPHPR.TUR_110712030000' does not belong to current incarnation on controlfile.

    This is not ASM or RMAN issue, but CONTROLFILE issue.

    Are you using RMAN CATALOG?

    Restore only controlfile from '/restorealeph/c-3573460394-20121107-01', then mount database and issue query below using SQLPLUS.

    Put here output of:
     alter session set nls_date_format='dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss';

    set linesize 200

    select db.DBID,NAME,db.CREATED,db.CONTROLFILE_TIME, db.VERSION_TIME,dbinc.RESETLOGS_TIME, dbinc.PRIOR_RESETLOGS_TIME
    from v$database db, v$database_incarnation dbinc
    where dbinc.INCARNATION# = db.LAST_OPEN_INCARNATION#;
    RMAN restore fails with ORA-01180: can not create datafile 1 [ID 1265151.1]
