I have been working as a PL/SQL and OWB developer for over a year now but I always felt as if I missed some of the general knowledge about administrating a database and a server.
For this purpose I got my old computer running and I want to install it into my local network with oracle XE database 11.2 and APEX.
Now my first question is how do you chose a operating system for oracle database (windows server, unix, linux)? The only place where I installed a oracle XE database is on my personal computer with windows 7.
My goal would be to make a small application in LAN environment and then host it when its done so I can try to administrate the server and the database.
You can choose either Linux 64-bit or Win 32-bit - see OS requirements here - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/index.htm. Home version of Windows is not certified. If you have Home version of Windows, one option is to create a VM using free Virtualbox software (http://www.virtualbox.org), then installing a supported OS in the VM (Oracle Linux is free from https://linux.oracle.com).
You may find my blog (referenced in my profile) helpful.
As mention here the best method is creat vm machine for your issue. You can use OEL linux which can be download from e-delivery site freely.
I suggest review www.oracle-base.com/ and also http://kamranagayev.com/step-by-step-oracle-guides/ which are usefull and which has video tutorial.
If you have any doubt please update here
Woah a lot of videos there. It might take time till I can watch all of them. But just to see if I get your point right. Install virtual machine on windows using WM ware and then host the database inside the virtual machine?
