Nope. That doesn't work either.
Perhaps I should be more explicit - I don't use the binding layer - this is a standard ADF/Faces application without ADF Binding.
Anyone else have a suggestion?
I must apologize, your suggestion was the correct solution. I had a subform in my page which wasn't working. I checked the value of "default" in the property explorer within the IDE and it said that it was set to the default value of "true". This was not actually the case. When I looked at the source code of the page, there was no attribute set for "default" in the component's XML.
After manually adding default=true as an attribute in the XML, the subform stopped the whole form from being submitted and the custom color can now be set.
