setting up disaster recovery

Hi,
I have 11.2.0.3 two node RAC database running on Solaris and I want to set up a DR which will be a stand alone database by recovering from RMAN full backup. To do this, can I tar the oracle home and the grid home and untar it in the DR site and restore and recover database? will that work? or I need to install a new software with stand alone option and use the RMAN full backup to restore?
Thanks.

    I would use rsync
    rsync -a <source> <dest>
I have a "Increase Oracle Mount Point Size" example here which uses this :

Where is your rman backupset in relation to the oracle home and the grid home that you propose to tar?
    will that work?
What prevents you from testing it?
or I need to install a new software with stand alone option and use the RMAN full backup to restore?
    Thanks.
Where are your tar files when the disaster strikes?

What about transactions that occur on the database between the time you make your rman backup, the time you create the tar file and the time the disaster strikes?

NO, You need to follow the instructions in the fine Oracle® Database Installation Guide on how to Clone an Oracle Home.
...and use the RMAN full backup to restore?
    Yes.

I doubt if this will work -- particularly for the grid home.

You need to do a proper install or Clone of the Oracle_Home.
