    Physical standby DB in RAC

    Tom
      Version :11.2.0.3 on Solaris 10

      We are planning to create a 3-node RAC physical standby for our 3-node RAC Primary DB. I was told that the mrp process (Managed recovery process) at the standby site should be configured to run only on one of 3 instances in the standby side. Is this true ?

          Hello;

          I don't see where that's documented :

          http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/dataguard11g-rac-maa-1-134639.pdf

          http://oracle.su/docs/11g/server.112/e10700/title.htm

          But it makes sense since I don't see how you would do it any other way without conflicts.

          Going with Yes - Seems like they refer to it as "redo apply instance"

            Yes, MRP will be active any one node of the cluster and other nodes will be sitting as "IDLE".
            you can refer MAA article for RAC primary and RAC standby http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10g-racprimaryracphysicalsta-131940.pdf

              primary : 3-node RAC and all 3 nodes can ship the archivelogs to standby site

              Standby: 3-node RAC and only one of the instance will apply the recevied logs (i.e MRP runs on only one node at any point of time)

              -Thanks

                So, this means, during the last stage of Standby setup , whichever Instance I connect and issue
                alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
                If I issued the above command from Instance 3 , the mrp process will be running only on Node3. Right ?

                  Hello;

                  From what I have read since you posted the question, that would be correct.

                      Yes MRP only runs on one instance of a RAC standby. Obviously that node needs to have access to the archivedlogs for all of the primary threads. Usually best to keep archivedlogs (and FRA in general) in ASM.
