    Hi JAM,

Difference is the components on each tier,Speaking in terms of Oracle Application Server 10g

Infra Consist of SSO, OID etc . These apps connect directly to the Metadata Repository Database(OAS10g inbuilt database). This is a database that pretty much holds OID,SSO and Discoverer info.

Middle Tier Consist of HTTP Server,Discover,Forms and reports, webcache,Portal,OC4J etc

You can also install some of the Mid tier Component without the Infra Tier ie Webcache,Forms and Reports,HTTP_Server,OC4J

    Regards

Check the chapter [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13994/infrastr.htm#sthref871]Oracle Application Server Infrastructure in the AS10g Concepts Guide. This gives a comprehensive explanation about the infrastructure server and will help you identify the differences between an infrastructure server and a midtier server.

    Thanks,
    EJ
