    Hi Shanaka,

    seems you have a lot mixed up! Advise that you read all the links/blog that are given to you in your threads.
    More importantly read Dataguard 11g documentation. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17022/concepts.htm#SBYDB00010

    you still did not executed the commands exactly as it was posted nonetheless your standby role should not be primary.

    Best regards and good luck
    Tobi

    Hello again,

    this should be executed in ONE terminal, on the primary DB terminal. and when you want to copy and paste, copy also the commands you executed. we are not there when you execute those commands ;) .
    $lsnrctl services
    $sqlplus sys/password@DGR   --EDITED: Connect to the standby DB. not primary db!. from your previous post DGR tns is for your standby. secondly do not edit the result or the command you execute. thks
    SQL>SELECT DB_UNIQUE_NAME,PRIMARY_DB_UNIQUE_NAME, DATABASE_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;
    SQL> exit
    dgmgrl sys/password
    dgmgrl>ADD DATABASE dgr AS CONNECT IDENTIFIER IS DGR
    But i have seen that you have not configured your Dataguard properly(your standby should not be in primary ROLE). firstly, properly configure the data guard.
    FYI: this command
    sqlplus sys/password@DGR
    is to determine maybe you can connect to your standby DB from your primary.

    Hi Todi,

    Hope now the issue is rectified to some extend , the service name which I put in tnsnames.ora should be same as the service name which listner has allocated . After edited accordingly the ORA-12514 has gone (SERVICE_NAME=DGP_DGMGRL.oracledgr).

    Now when I tried the same I got below

    DGMGRL> ADD DATABASE 'dgr' AS CONNECT IDENTIFIER IS oracledgr;
    Error: ORA-16831: operation disallowed on this standby database type

    Failed.

    Anyone have any idea on this error?

    Best Regards,
    Shanaka.

    Hi,

    ON standby DB
    $lsnrctl services
    SQL>SELECT DB_UNIQUE_NAME,PRIMARY_DB_UNIQUE_NAME, DATABASE_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;

    Provide full permisson for listner.ora,sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora in network/admin and usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/oracle.
    Also use backup control file from primary to mount standby.
