    Connecting sqlplus to oracle server11g

    fadiwilliam
      I have oracle db server 9.2.0.2 , I have a client connected with this server, the client has sqlplus 8.0.6.0

      I adjust the tnsnames in the client with the following parameters :

      myconn =

      (DESCRIPTION =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
      (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = my_sid)
      )
      )

      this connection was successfull

      when I tried the same connection with oracle db server 11g (11.2.0.1)

      this connection failed

      any help please

      how can i connect wih the new server 11g (11.2.0.1)

          Hi,

          You mean you have two database on one server. if so then you need to connect to each database from the Bin folder which is in the oracle base.

            As far as i know Oracle 9.2 is the oldest version able to connect to 11.

              hi,

              i am not talking about which version is able to connect to which version.

              I simply said if you have two different versions databases on same server then while connecting it will be conflict to connect to the database out of Bin folder.

              If you have different database then you need to connect by going into BIN folder.

                What "folder" (directory) you are in has nothing to do with it.

                  " this connection failed" is not an actionable error message ...
                  Go to a command prompt, try your connection. Then copy the entire session -- full command and full respones, and paste back to your next post.

                    V8 Client is NOT compatible with V11 DB!
