Re,1 person found this helpful
no problem about that in the /root folder only root related (user) configuration located.
Thanks for your answer ...
Then do we need to do any configurations for the root user after it got deleted??
Thanks in advance
configurations for....desktops(e.g gnome) , ssh, bashrc, bash_history, bash_profiles
..downloads and desktop symbols.
Nothing you need if you are not know you need it ;-)
Default configurations of all this stuff are related to the stuff itself e.g gnome standard configuration is stored somewhere else it fits to all users. If you change something there it will saved to you user profile in /root
With the bashrc you can define aliases or color structure for the bash e.g alias l='ls -la'
hope that helps otherwise try google for /root .-/
The /root directory is the home directory of the root user. It contains a few hidden files that are used to setup the root shell environment:1 person found this helpful
dr-xr-x---. 2 root root 4096 Aug 4 13:07 .
dr-xr-xr-x. 25 root root 4096 Nov 20 11:26 ..
-rw-------. 1 root root 1452 Aug 4 10:53 anaconda-ks.cfg
-rw-------. 1 root root 3 Aug 4 13:07 .bash_history
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 18 Apr 30 2010 .bash_logout
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 176 Apr 30 2010 .bash_profile
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 176 Apr 30 2010 .bashrc
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 100 Apr 30 2010 .cshrc
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 26152 Aug 4 10:53 install.log
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 7345 Aug 4 10:52 install.log.syslog
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 129 Apr 30 2010 .tcshrc
If you deleted them you can copy the default ones from the /etc/skel directory:
cp -i /etc/skel/.bash* /root/
Or reinstall them from the Linux distribution:
yum reinstall rootfiles
Those hidden files are still there. :)
Need to know some more infomation
I was wrong..
That anaconda-ks.cfg file is not there. and install.log, install.log.syslog (log files will not be issue... is it??)
Do I need to copy that back before restarting the server??
What are the things contain in that file (anaconda-ks.cfg)???
The anaconda-ks.cfg file is a Kickstart file that was automatically generated by the anaconda installation. Your server will function normally without any of these files you mentioned.1 person found this helpful
