I just installed 4.2 and setup everything including copying the images folder. I can run the pls/apex/apex_admin page and the html loads, but anything coming from the /i/ (images) folder gets a 403 Forbidden error. When I look at my Apache error log (oh, by the way, I'm running on OAS 10.1.3.5) it shows the following error message for every file coming from the images folder.
client denied but server configuration
I am not new to installing Apex, and have done it multiple times, but this is the first time I've run into this issue. This is running on a Windows system, and I compared the file permissions to another server, and they are the same.
Did you copy (and alias) the images file to a directory located underneath directory definend in the DocumentRoot directive? If not you may need to "explicitly permit access to" the images directory: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_alias.html#alias
Yep, following the post installation instructions, I added the alias. Actually, I have an apex.conf file located in the modplsql folder that I copied from an Apex 3.2 install which is where the alias is defined. Then there is an include in my httpd.conf file which references the apex.conf file.
Alias /i/ "D:\Oracle\OraHome1\Apache\Apache\images/"

I figured out the answer to my problem....
After the "alias" entry, I had to add the following...
Allow from all
Now it works! Hope this helps someone else!
